Adult or “somatic” stem cells

Adult or “somatic” stem cells are multipotent cells found in juvenile and adult animals and humans. Because these cells are multipotent, they can only differentiate into multiple, but limited, types of cells. Although they are not pluripotent like embryonic stem cells, they are still useful. Because they are derived from adult tissue samples such as one’s own skin, there is little controversy over their use.
